How do you know a dog food brand is premium if you don’t compare the dog food ingredients? Well, you can’t. It is more than simply comparing ingredients. You must know what the ingredients really are and what it means for your dog.

Some dog food brands have unnatural ingredients in the food. Some even add sweeteners. Why would you add sweeteners to a dog food? It doesn’t have any nutritional value and only causes problems. There is absolutely no need to add sweeteners to dog food.

Chicken meal and meat meal are often better than chicken and meat. The chicken and meat is the watered down version of chicken meal and meat meal. This means chicken meal has more nutritional value than chicken.

Corn sounds good but really it is just filler. Corn cannot be digested by animals and literally goes in one end and comes out the other. When giving dogs corn in their food, the dog requires more food.

For example: My dog is a working dog and eats a high quality food. I feed her 2 cups a day. She usually only has bowel movements once a day. This is good because her dog food does not have much filler.

My roommate has a pet dog. She feed him 4 cups of low quality food. She has to take her dog out 3 or 4 times a day. The reason is her dog needs more food just to keep up the nutrition.

Most products will have corn for both filler and as a binding agent. However, if corn or corn meal is the first ingredient listed, then you know you are buying a bag full of filler.

When comparing dog food ingredients, you have to check both the healthy ingredients like chicken meal and unnecessary ingredients like sweetener.  Selecting a natural dog food with quality ingredients will have your dog looking and feeling better in only two months.
