Barking Dog Training - How To Stop Your Dog Nuisance Barking
Posted Under: Uncategorized
Unabated barking, particularly at night is not something anyone wants to put up with. It`s a bigger problem if it`s our dog doing the barking. We live on top of each other and this kind of behaviour can cause neighbour disputes and even eviction in apartments if it is deemed that we are not in control of our dog.. However, with the correct equipment, barking dog training is not difficult.
You would never expect a human being to stop talking forever, similarly you cannot expect your dog to do so either. Also there is no better burgler alarm than a barking dog.
What we as dog owners need to do is control the barking dog, training him when it’s appropriate to bark and then stop on our command. Like humans, dogs `speak` for many reasons and the majority of these are legitimate. Excitement, attention seeking and communication are all reasons why dogs bark. There are warning barks, alarm barks, playful barks, need barks and command barks. We have a behavioural problem when barking becomes continuous.
It is possible with time and patience to train a dog to bark on command and as a by product to be quiet on command. If you do not have the time or patience to do this don’t give up hope because there are several devices which can offer a quick remedy.
1 Ultrasonic.
Stand alone ultrasonic devices automatically send out a high pitched sound which distracts the dog from its barking. There are several versions of these; collars, stand alone and hand held devices. Collar devices are as described, they automatically sound when the dog barks. The stand alone device is usually put in the home or garden Your neighbour’s dog can also be quietened by a stand alone device placed in the gardenHandheld ultrasonic devices have a button on them which on pressing sends out a correction signal. These can be useful if you are bothered by barking dogs when out walking, jogging or bike riding.
2 Spray.
These generally come in the form of citronella no-bark collars. They provide negative feedback every time the dog barks by automatically spraying citronella which most dogs do not like.
3 Electronic.
Professional dog trainers consider electronic bark collars to be a fast and effective solution to nuisance barking. Some still believe that there is something cruel or inhumane about electronic collars. While this may have been true several years ago they have come a long way since the early days. They give the dog a small electric shock whern he barks The first bark of the dog is met with the first warning which is a mild shock If the dog barks again within 30 seconds the shock is intensified slightly. Repetitive barking will take the collar to the 6th and final level. Safety measures built in to the collar prevent cruelty to the dog fo instance if the dog barks more than 15 times in 50 seconds then the collar shuts down for 3 minutes and resets itself.
So this is how to stop dog barking There is no need to put up with continuous dog barking. Barking dog training with one of the three methods outlined above needs no expertise to use and is usually effective immediately.
