Border collie training is one of the things present or potential border collie owners shouldn’t ignore. Border collies are known to be intelligent dogs but leaving them untrained can make them tough to control hence may possibly lead to various trouble to themselves or anybody around them.

Having such exceptional herding instinct, border collies are expected to bark, nip and grip. However, barking may become more of a problem if it goes beyond what’s normal or what’s more tolerable based on human point of view.

It’s not easy to find remedy to a particular problem not knowing where it came from or what are the reasons for its occurrence. So to figure out what makes your precious pet bark over and over, try to find out what triggered the behavior. A border collie may bark if:

  • he does not get ample exercise
  • lacks mental stimulation
  • bored and doesn’t have enough toys to play
  • he sees the need to herd whether it be other animals or your children
  • he is alone and away from his human
  • he notices an impending threat

If he barks due to insufficient exercise or mental stimulation, the most effective way to deal with the problem is to provide more activities. Walk your dog at least once a day and train him to retrieve a ball or play Frisbee. Dog training activities including teaching basic obedience and other tricks will also provide him the mental challenge he needs.

Having been bred to herd, you may see your household pet barking at what he thinks as “sheep” from time to time. It is therefore recommended to teach other family members particularly children on how to respond when the situation demands. If barking is due to|is a result of boredom and loneliness, transferring his crate or bed in an area where the family commonly stays and providing him with unique and interactive dog toys can help solve the problem.
