Charlotte Dog Trainer
Posted Under: Uncategorized
Today is the day I decided to take my training to another level, a working dog. Tim Smith of SFCDogs.com and Ryan Grayce of caninescholars.com ushered me into a whole new world of dogs at Tarheel K9. Arriving up to a large facility with Police Squad cars parked out front decaled with “CAUTION K-9.One of the dog trainers asked what qualities Charlotte Dog Trainer were interested in. Three dogs were picked out and individually harnessed and brought into a large room for testing.
Charlotte Dog Trainers A handler pulled out our first evaluation. IRO a large male malinois who just turned 2 in May. Tim threw out a piece of pipe as IRO scattered feverishly to snatch it up off the ground. The pulled our IRO to the middle of the room where Tim tested his bite grip. He had a full calm grip
Up next Typhoon, another malinois with the look of a hyena. A PVC pipe Tim tossed and gathered no interest. The handler recommended we toss a KONG, Tim threw a kong in the open and was quickly grabbed by Typhoone who proudly carried it for a few seconds and then dropped it. The bite showed shallowness on the entry.
The final candidate was another malionis almost 10 months old. There was an average interest in a kong and started on a sleeve for bite-work.
Tim, Ryan and I discussed all of the elements of a good working dog and how we tested each element (nerves of STEEL, TONS of hunt drive, CRAZY prey drive, and CRAZY ball drive) . From our evaluations we decided IRO would be a good dog our of our choices.
Stay tuned for my first week in training with my new working dog, learning and utilizing Trinity Remote Systems (t-rsystems.com) in obedience with e-collars.
