Dog Obedience Training - Shih Tzu
Posted Under: Uncategorized
As a companion dog, a Shih Tzu dog is usually pretty easy to train. Shih Tzu training does not need to be as vigorous as Doberman training, for example, because Shih Tzu dogs are generally not used as guard dogs or for protection. Certain breeds are generally kept for their companionship and/or beauty rather than their work ability. Work dogs are increasingly popular as family pets as well, however.
Because Shih Tzu are companion dogs and not used for work, typical Shih Tzu obedience training is fairly straightforward. Show dogs, however, will require special show-related training.

Other than training for companionship, if you are training Shih Tzu dogs, (and especially puppies), you should also focus on puppy potty training. Shih Tzu, especially while still puppies, need clear potty training to ensure that you don’t have to clean up their mess in the house. To potty train a puppy, make sure you have the best information from top training experts.
Puppy Potty Training Tips from Top Trainers: Patience is possibly the most vital part of puppy toilet training. For some puppies, it can take 7-10 days for them to feel at home in your home. And it can take at least that long before they are thoroughly potty trained. Also remember that you should never, ever hit your dog. It is easy to get angry when you find that your dog has gone potty in your house. As frustrating as puppy potty mistakes can be, take a deep breath and refuse the urge to rub puppy’s face in “it.” Training your Shih Tzu about proper potty habits can be frustrating but violence is not the answer. When puppies and dogs are physically punished, often they are not clear WHY they are being punished and they may start to be frightened of the person doing the punishing, (in this case, YOU). Shih Tzu dog training should never include physical punishment. Not feeding your Shih Tzu right before you go to bed is another great puppy potty training tip.
