Dog Training Tips and Techniques

Dog owners know that dogs have to be trained if they are to offer the kind of security require of them.  The belief among many people is that dogs are trained so that they can obey their masters and do whatever is commanded of them.  However, this could not be further from the truth mainly because security dogs are trained in order to strengthen the bond between the owner and his guard and ensure that the dog offers security as it is meant to.  K9s should be trained to recognize when there is danger around and how they should react to it to ensure the safety of all involved.  Dogs should be trained in order for them to play their role in offering security the way they should.  Therefore, security dogs should be trained to ensure that they understand the roles in the life of the people they are supposed to be protecting.

It is useless to train a dog if it cannot understand the lesson so ample time needs to be dedicated to ensuring it understands.  Puppies are easier to train as they have not yet formed a character and they can easily be shaped at a young age.  Therefore, if training an adult security dog, different training techniques and methods would have to be applied.  An adult dog already knows how to react and trying to get it to stop is difficult.  Regardless of the size and age of the dog, the first training technique is teaching the dog how to obey whatever it is told.  This initial lesson is called obedience training and at first involves teaching the K9 to recognize its name and how to respond to it.  Obedience training can then gradually evolve to other commands such as how to respond when the dog owner is in danger.

Other dog training steps will follow gradually after the dog understands the obedience part, which is said to be the most important lesson.  After passing the obedience stage, a trained dog, or one in training, understands and obeys commands and knows when its owner is in danger and what is expected of it in terms of offering protection.  Because of this training, many trained dogs understand that they should not attack unless they sense danger and they are trained how to recognize danger.  This lesson should be taught with more vigilance to security dogs that need to offer more security such as police officers and guards.
