The only time you may want to consider a different formula is for weight loss. If you have a big dog that is overweight, then the best thing is exercise. If exercise is not enough, limit the dog’s food. However, I don’t like giving a large dog less than 2 cups a day. In my experience, if I give a large dog less than 2 cups of dog food a day, the dog wants to scavenge. To prevent scavenging, I switch to a weight control food until the dog starts working more.

For proper nutrition, look for chicken meal as the top ingredient. Chicken meal is more nutrient dense than chicken, so don’t confuse the two. Then make sure that corn or corn meal is way down on the ingredient list, if it is there at all. Corn is filler and doesn’t add any nutrition.
