Pet Care – Focusing On Dog Health And Puppy Bathing
Posted Under: Uncategorized
Keeping puppies clean is one hard task, and if you have ever tried it, you’ll know what I mean. But don’t give up on this important bath ritual, as it is an essential part of any dog health care routine. Your puppy will learn what the cleaning process involves at an early age, and this is good. Cleaning your dog can be a fun pet health process though, and if you’re planning on bathing your puppy, read on…
The first thing - before you even run the bathwater - is to collect all the supplies you will need. A brush and a dog conditioner are just some of the essentials you need. Plus, you’ll need a large towel for your dog. Next, put on clothes you don’t care about getting soaked. It is advisable to bathe the puppy when he is hungry, as he will be more attentive then. Call your puppy to you and offer a treat, remove his collar and give him a few more treats. Most importantly, you have to convince your dog that this is a fun process. Now it’s time for a thorough brush-and-comb. Remember that tangled fur is hard to remove when wet, so always brush before the water gets turned on. Get some conditioner on the fur and brush this through all the way to the ends.
Get some water round the back of the puppy’s ears and gently scrub clean. Tell your puppy how good he is at having a bath and reward him with treats. It is also a good idea to get his toy out and let him play with it in the bath. Bear in mind that a puppy with skin sensitivities should have a baby shampoo used on its head. Don’t let the water touch the dog until you are sure it is the right temperature. Now, thoroughly soak the coat with water. Avoid the eyes and ears, and keep praising. The trick with shampoo is massaging it, and this should be done in short circles. Using the scrub brush, work the shampoo in. Once this is complete, rinse the shampoo and repeat the process. There’s always more soap that needs to be removed. Lastly, condition the fur and rinse – then your dog is ready to be wrapped up in a towel and dried off.
