prevent dog barking.

All dogs bark, it’s their way to communicate a message.

A dog barks for various reasons: to greet, to alert, because they are bored, to get attention or when they are excited.

Although some barking form is acceptable, too much barking is certainly annoying, particularly for your neighbors and it  may eventually lead to complaints. The easiest way to stop dog barking is to control his/her barking when you are at home.

Dog barking can be stopped in various ways. Create a situation in which your dog will always bark.   For example, you can ask a neighbor to ring your doorbell or knock on your door.

When your dog charges to the door and starts to bark loudly, approach your dog, grab its collar and give the command “quiet” – without shouting please, it never helps.

If your dog stops barking, praise him/her and offer him/her some reward. She/He’s a genius and really deserves it.

When it continues barking, close its mouth with your hand, wrap your fingers around its muzzle – use both hands if needed, and give the command for him/her to keep quiet. You should praise it if it stops.

Most dogs should be able to learn the “quiet” command with repeated training like this. Set up similar situations to “lure” your dog to bark and repeat training every time it is possible.

If you happen to own a hard-core persistent barker, use this method:

Vinegar-Water solution – mix a proportion of 7/8 of water & 1/8 of vinegar together. Pour the solution into a water pistol or what kids call “super soaker” to shoot from a longer distance.

Aim and shoot at his chest whenever it can’t stop barking even on your command. Dogs loathe the smell of vinegar and will usually back off and stop barking. You may expect it to sneeze a few times. It will do it no harm, so you need not worry.

As usual, praise it when it stops barking.

It’s important to know that your dog might still be barking noisily and disrupting your neighborhood when you are away. If this happens, you’ll need some training equipment known as “bark collars” to help train it.

There are several types of bark collars on the market.

Some of these collars send a gentle electric shock to your dog when he/shehe barks, some make a high pitch sound or emit a squirt of citronella, which might be annoying but safe for your dog.

In most cases, these collars can help to make your dog stop barking..

In my case I usually recommend the citronella or the high pitch sound collars. They are very effective and much more humane dog training tools.
