Often people have a hard time determining the right kind of dog house for their dog. The first thing you will need to do is measure your dog. This will make it possible to get the correct size dog house. There are a few things you will need to consider when choosing the best house for your dog.

If you have a dog that lives outside most of the time you need to consider your local climate. If your home is in a place where the temperatures drop significantly you might want to think about getting a heated dog house. If you cannot buy a heated dog house at least get one that is waterproof and insulated and then add a heated dog bed or pad. Only use a heated pad made for use with animals since your dog can become overheated if you use one designed for humans. Heated dog beds are made to be chew proof and operated safely using low voltage.

A dog bed with cedar chip stuffing will naturally repel fleas. If the issue in your area is heat rather than cold you need a dog house to help your dog stay cool. You will need a dog house which is well ventilated and placed in your yard where there is plenty of shade. One option you have is air conditioned dog houses for those dogs that are prone to overheating.

Look for large outdoor dog houses with enough room so your dog can comfortably lie down and turn around, but not so large that it will not warm up in winter. When it comes to dog houses bigger is not better. There are many different materials used to make dog houses including PVC, galvanized steel, wood, and plastic. You can purchase dog houses which are already assembled or as pieces ready to assemble.
