You can hide the chicken wire just under the surface of the earth in a place where the dog is likely to dig. The dog will not like the feeling of his claws across the wire so he will not dig there. This will be a deterrent from digging in that area.

When you dog figures out that this is a great place for digging he will go there instantly rather than anywhere else in the yard.
