The practice of docking tails on some breeds of dogs goes back hundreds of years. It was once assumed that clipping a canine’s tail helped to increase the canine’s speed, strengthen its lower back and even prevent diseases. Canine owners would also often clip ears in hopes of preventing injury to the dog that could possibly be prompted while fighting, biting and operating.

In the earlier times in the Georgian period, the UK levied a tax relating to tail clipping. This tax named for the owner of your working class pet to pay out if their pet’s tail was not clipped. When this fee was repealed in 1795, the upswing in popularity of the practice of tail clipping didn’t stop.

In our current era, tail docking is executed for many distinct factors. For working dogs who work in the fields, it had been familiar to dock in order to prevent long tails from collecting burrs and other plant matter. No only does a build up of burrs possess the ability to cause a dog pain and infection but it may also lead to injury to other people as a result of the working dog’s wagging tail.

When it comes to herd dogs, tail docking is typical mainly as a hygiene matter as extended tails can collect feces along with other residue from the herd animals. Tails could also get caught beneath the hooves of the herd animals and caught in gates and fences. In breeds of dog employed for guard duty, docked ears and tails are believed to seem more dangerous.

It can be assumed that hanging ears and tails remind individuals of puppies, making them seem much more adorable than ferocious. Cosmetic docking can also be executed in order for an animal to fulfill breed restrictions for displaying and breeding.

Docking may be preformed on canines who have been injured. If the tail injury cannot be sufficiently treated by a veterinarian, it should be clipped to stop the harm and relieve the canine of pain.

As a result of the invasive nature of the process, tail clipping has been made illegal within the majority of countries around the globe with the USA, Austria and Spain being a few of the remaining big global leaders who even now makes it possible for the exercise.  Check out more on this topic and other pet related topics like lobster dog toy and banana dog toy
