To avoid Yorkie problems from the start, it’s important as a new Yorkie owner to start your new Yorkie on a training program by mastering how to train a Yorkie. Many new dog owners put off training a Yorkie which is a big mistake: you should start as soon as the the dog is about 8 to 10 weeks of age.
Yorkies have a known reputation as strong-willed, independent, smart, and often stubborn. If that Yorkie is properly trained these traits are great, but not if the dog is not trained properly.
Training A Yorkies And Crate Training
One of the most effective training method is crate training. Using a crate to train a Yorkie to be house broken will help a lot in that regard because the crate helps foster a safe and comfortable environment for the dog. The basic premise is this: whenever you are not available to personally supervise your Yorkie, the puppy should be locked in the crate. Every hour, when you start out, let the dog out of the crate to go to the bathroom Because dogs in general keep their sleeping areas pretty clean, they will hold themselves for as long as they can. At the time that you do take the Yorkie outside to relieve your pet, make sure that you take the dog to the same spot.
The Coming And Goings From Home And How To Train A Yorkie
Some important points to keep in mind when you leave your home or when you come back from somewhere. First, you do not want to praise them, talk to them, or give them attention in any way. An example: You are leaving for work and you pet the dog or give it praise. It’s hard to believe, but what is actually happening here is the announcement that you are leaving which causes a lot of anxiety for the Yorkie. This anxiety can manifest itself into destructive behaviors around the house while you are gone, like chewing up a shoe or having an accident on your carpet. So the best type of behavior to prevent this is to practice doing nothing to the Yorkie before you leave the house.
Become the Alpha Pack Leader
You have to let the Yorkie know that you run the household and not the dog. If you fail at this, there will be many difficulties traing this new puppy. So make sure that the Yorkie knows who runs the show in the household.
