One of the more effective ways of obedience training for a Yorkie is to use a clicker. So, training a Yorkie with a clicker is especially helpful if your dog is at least 8 weeks old. Some people use different methods that work really well and some that don’t work at all. For many methods, routines and consistency are vital to helping your dog learn the rules of your household.

Getting that stubborn Yorkie trained well, you have to get him or her to comply to your command. With a clicker, a lot of people believe that it is one of the most effective way to train a Yorkie.

By using the mothod of training a Yorkie with a clicker, can be the very foundation of a very solid training program for your Yorkie. The main concept here is to make your do associate the clicker noise to certain commands that they are being asked to do, and it makes the dog understand what you are expecting from them.

As a clicker makes a sharp sound, it can be heard more than 20 yards away. You use the clicker in conjunction with specific commands, like “sit” and “stay.”

The clicking sound makes the dog link the clicking sound to the verbal command which increases compliance.

It’s important to note here that the clicker is used for comands only to prevent confusion.

There is a three step process for utilizing the clicker when you are training Yorkies with a clicker. To assure that the clicker training will be a success, as Yorkies can be really stubborn dogs, you will have to be firm and consistent.

At the start of your clicker training, give your dog commands. When the dog complies with the command, whether it be sit/stay/down/roll over/ or whatever, you sound off the clicker and give your Yorkie a treat. What this does is teach your dog to associate a specific behavior with being “good” and getting rewarded for it.

The great thing is that with clicker training you usually get imediate response. It works because it is also giving your Yorkie positivie reinforcement and practice of dealing with its owner/household.

Training Yorkies with a clicker works when your dog connects commands with the desired type of bejhavior.

Command, clicker, treat: that’s the order.

After a while it isn’t necessary to constantly reward your Yorkie with a treat. There are also other rewards you can give your dog: verbal praise or just petting your dog.

Clicker training should be ongoing. To put it simply, your dog should be getting simple, but sharp commands that are reinforced with the sound of the clicker. In the end, reward your Yorkie if your dog complies to your command with the clicker.
